Voted Best Clam Chowder on the West Coast!

Trinidad Eatery has been a favorite tradition for locals and tourists since 1975. One of our best kept secrets that keeps visitors coming back is our own New England Clam Chowder!

Made from scratch daily and served fresh, it has truly become a Trinidad Eatery tradition. Many customers have said that we have the best clam chowder that they have ever tasted.

Some visitors even order their chowder To-Go so that they can take it home and freeze it, just to enjoy a little bit of Trinidad Eatery right from their own home.

Don’t take our word for it…. just look at what our visitors are saying:

We were very glad we came! I don’t like scallops but they were kind and subbed in grilled cod for the coconut curry scallop dish. The kids split the fish and chips and devoured it! My husband got the mussel and shrimp and fish bowl and it was the best dish of all!!! The only criticism I have is they are a little heavy with the balsamic dressing on the beet salad.

Excellent clam chowder bread bowl! What I loved about the bread bowl is that is was crispy on the outside, the top slice of the bowl was also toasted, as well as the top of the bread section that was removed. Great for dipping in the chowder!!! Great service! We went there twice, once going south along the coast and then going back north along the coast. I definitely will go there again when I have the chance.

Had a very nice dinner here! Really excellent crab cakes! The fresh cut french fries were dynamite! We each had the side salad which was large & had lots of yummy things besides lettuce on them (organic beets, fresh strawberries and cucumbers ). Go for testing blackberry cobbler! Oh my….so wonderful!

Great meal! Went to this restaurant twice in 3 days. All homemade food. Great menu, lots to choose from for kids and adults alike. Clean and excellent service. Fish and chips was very good and we are from Newfoundland. Happy it was fresh cod and homemade shoestring fries yum! Fresh tuna appetizer, Poke, was a nice surprise. (If you have a choice, go here rather than Seascape. Their fish was dry and not fresh).

Just looking for a place to have lunch on our way south along the coast, we found this place was an easy right turn into the parking lot. We were blown away by the great food and excellent, friendly service. The feel is a bit 50’s/60’s diner, but all else was 21st century high quality tasty – and plenty of it.

“My wife and I travel a fair amount, and have had the good fortune to eat in some of the world’s best restaurants, regardless of price. I have spent my entire professional career in the hospitality industry, so I know the differences between okay, good, great, and “avoid.”

We have discovered that we have a love for the Redwood Coast and have begun travelling from our home in the North Valley to the Eureka/Arcata/Trinidad area as often as possible.

We recently had dinner at The Eatery, in Trinidad, and could not have been much happier with our decision. Service was attentive and good, wine selections were interesting, and the food was very good. In fact, I had one of the best, most perfectly-broiled pieces of fresh halibut I’ve had in quite a while. No frills or nonsense, just a very good piece of fish with fresh lemon and a bit of herbed seasoning.

We will be back soon, and recommend it highly.”

“We used to live near Trinidad & would frequent The Eatery especially for the clam chowder, plus the service was always great too. It’s a fairly small place but they have a cute gift shop and the staff is always personable and friendly. We now live over 6 hours away and my husband and I have gone many, many places looking for a great bowl of clam chowder & NONE has ever compared to The Eatery’s clam chowder! I decided to write this review because my husband and I have taken several trips to multiple coastal towns and always been in search of a bowl of clam chowder that could compare & there just isn’t any!!! (Including a place in Oregon that was on Food Network advertised as the “world’s best clam chowder”… NOPE!!!) I know I sound like a commercial but seriously it is the best & one of the things I miss the most about living there! We definitely always stop by anytime we are going anywhere near there.”

“Upon the recommendation of a friend, we stopped at the Trinidad Bay Eatery & Gallery for lunch. We were immediately seated, treated very courteously by our waitress, and our drink order came out shortly afterwards. The menu had many tempting offerings, but we both came here to try out the clam chowder. One of us ordered the cup of clam chowder and the other ordered the bread bowl of clam chowder. The bread bowl is an excellent way to have clam chowder, with the broth soaking into the sourdough bread, it was simply delectable. We will stop here again next time we are in the area.”

“Went here for lunch today while visiting Trinidad, based on the Trip Advisor reviews. We ordered the clam chowder. It was absolutely delicious…thick, but not overly thick, and loaded with clams and potatoes…absolutely perfect! And based on the reviews we saved room for the berry cobbler, and it was outstanding! Wonderful service…wonderful lunch…in beautiful Trinidad.”

“Ended up here by accident, but turned out to have the best clam chowder bread bowl I have ever eaten. Chowder was creamy but the celery and potatoes were still firm. The bread bowl was spread with garlic and butter then put under a broiler so it was crispy on the top but soft sour dough everywhere else. Three of us shared it as an appetizer but if I had known how good it was I would have got my own! Nice waitstaff and they make and sell fudge too.”
